Blow

Sunday yellow 1

The dying leaves must be lobbying the wind for the sweet relief of death, because there’s been a suspicious number of gusty days this last week. Today, especially. And yet, the leaves persist. I’m proud of them for hanging on. Walking in Whitemud Ravine this afternoon, the canopy is still impressive, if not thinner, and yellower. It was, however, raining leaves. It won’t be long. Last week in Mill Creek, it seemed a few days past peak, but I think the trees are in fact just peaking at different times. Some are bare, but most have a full or near-full set of yellow leaves. Some are still completely green. Even fewer are red. Must be early October.
